Another option for pain relief is a Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS machine). TENS machines deliver small electrical pulses to the body via electrodes placed on the skin. This is thought to help ease pain. The research evidence to support the use of TENS machines is not strong, but they seem to be popular with people who have pain. More Information... Electronic Nerve Modulation Electronic Nerve Modulation (ENM) technology is a new form of electrotherapy developed to provide relief from long-standing persistent and recurring pain (known medically as chronic pain) anywhere in the body.
The ENM device that delivers DEEP tens therapy produces rapid electrical impulses which alter (modulate) the way in which the deeper nerves in the Central Nervous System conduct chronic pain signals as those signals travel into the spinal column on their way to the brain. Often called DEEPtens, this unique technology allows sufficiently high levels of electricity to pass into the spinal column to interrupt pain signals on the way to the brain with causing the irritating tingle usually associated with ordinary or high power TENS devices. DEEP tens therapy is designed to work alongside or instead of conventional analgesics (e.g. painkilling medicines and tablets) to help to control the chronic pain associated with a wide range of conditions. These conditions include wear and tear arthritis (often called osteoarthritis), sciatica, lumbago, backache, neuralgia, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, neck pain, headaches, migraine, pain from old injuries and post-operative pain.
